Privacy Policy

Effective Date: April 19, 2026 Last Updated: October 28, 2026 Version 1.1

In short

Your expense data is stored locally on your device. We use Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics only to monitor app performance and fix crashes — never to track your behavior or read your records. If you sign in and enable automatic backup, Kapi saves backups to your own Google Drive or iCloud; we never see or store them.

Section 01Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how Kapi ("Kapi", "the App", "we", "us", or "our") handles information in connection with your use of the Kapi: Private Expense Tracker mobile application. The App is developed and maintained by Bidhan, an individual developer based in Kathmandu, Nepal.

We have designed Kapi with privacy as a core principle. Your financial records — the expenses, categories, tags, and notes you enter — are stored locally on your device and are not uploaded to any server we control. This policy explains the limited information we do collect, why we collect it, and the choices available to you.

By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

Section 02Information We Collect

Information you provide directly

When you use the App, you may create records such as expense amounts, dates, categories, tags, and notes. This information is stored entirely on your device and is not transmitted to us.

Information collected automatically

The App uses the following services to monitor performance and reliability. Neither tracks your behavior for advertising or profiling:

Information we do not collect

Section 03How We Use Information

The limited information we collect through Firebase is used only for the following purposes:

We do not use this information for advertising, profiling, or to make automated decisions that affect you.

Section 04Your Data on Your Device

All expense records you create are stored in a local database on your device. This data:

Because your data lives on your device, losing your device without a backup means losing your records. We strongly recommend enabling automatic cloud backup if your data is important to you.

Section 05Automatic Cloud Backup

Kapi offers optional automatic backup to your own personal cloud storage. This feature requires you to sign in (see Account and Sign-In) and is turned off until you enable it.

Section 06Account and Sign-In

Kapi works fully without an account. Signing in is optional and is used only for:

Sign-in is handled through Google or Apple. When you sign in, we receive a basic account identifier (and the email associated with the account) solely to link your backup and subscription status to you. Your expense records are never tied to this account or uploaded to us, and signing out or using the App without an account does not limit your ability to track expenses on your device.

Section 07Third-Party Services

The App integrates with the following third-party services. Their handling of data is governed by their own privacy policies:

ServicePurposePrivacy Policy

Firebase CrashlyticsCrash reporting and diagnosticsFirebase Privacy

We do not control what data these services collect or how they use it. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.

Section 08Device Permissions

The App requests the following permissions, each for a specific purpose:

The App does not request access to your location, contacts, camera, microphone, or photo library.

Section 09Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade any information.

We may disclose information collected through Firebase in the following limited circumstances:

Section 10Data Retention

Section 11Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the limited information collected through Firebase. Firebase services use encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest, as implemented by Google. Your local expense data benefits from the operating system's built-in protections (such as app sandboxing and, on recent Android and iOS versions, device-level encryption).

However, no method of storage or transmission is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and you use the App at your own risk.

Section 12Your Rights and Choices

Because your expense data is stored on your device, you always have complete control over it:

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, California, or another jurisdiction with data protection laws, you may have additional rights such as the right to request access, correction, deletion, or portability of your personal information. Because we collect very limited data through Firebase and that data is not tied to you personally, such requests are generally fulfilled by your device-level opt-out settings. For any specific request, please contact us at the address below.

Section 13Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in certain jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has used the App, please contact us so we can take appropriate steps.

Section 14International Users

The App is operated from Nepal. Firebase services, which process the limited analytics and crash data described above, are operated by Google and may store or process data in the United States or other countries where Google maintains facilities. By using the App, you consent to this processing.

Section 15Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, provide notice within the App. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
